The Origin of CHAKAN the Forever Man

He came for me that day on a misty plain, and even now, an eternity later, I still hear his words:

"You have served me well Chakan, and sent many souls to me. But, you have grown too strong and powerful. I've been summoned to slay you this night."

He smiled, then said, "To a man of death from Death himself, a wager? If you win, Chakan, you shall live forever: if I win, your soul is mine to do with as I wish."

In my vanity, I foolishly accepted.

The battle was joined...and was fought on all levels...the physical, mental, mystic, and psychic. It was fought on this world and in other planes of existence, with sword and spell we clashed toe to toe. The worlds shook and trembled at our powers. I attacked with such fury, such might, that even Death was taken aback. Seizing the sound of my fury, i fell the dark sovereign. I had defeated Death!

"Fulfill the wager, Lord of the Dead, give to me the gift of eternal life!" Those were my words as I raised my arms in victory, but i should have known you cannot defeat the Harvester of Sorrows.

"Foolish man, " Death said, "Long before your world and long after, until the last star falls to my touch, I shall be. You cannot slay that which does not live. You are a tactful swordsman, so I will not renege on our wager. I grant you the kiss of eternal life, but," Death smiled, "For your arrogance and pride i will temper my gift with this curse." the reaper laughed.

"Each nightfall, evils will be shown to you, and the pain of their victims will be your pain. You will never know rest as you wander this world searching to slay the horrors that haunt your sleeping world. You will suffer grievous wounds, but you will not die, and as eternity rolls on, you crave my touch. You face will bear my visage, and your eyes will burn with hellfire.

So saying, my face withered and my eyes blazed with infernal fury.

"Let it not be said that I am without mercy, " Death grinned, "There shall be an end to your curse, if all the beasts of the dark are slain, then you may find rest."

It was then that Death left me, the once proud Chakan, clutching the ground in agony. And now I live an eternity in which my sleep is haunted by nightmares and where pain is real and unforgiving. How long till the end?

Characters in the CHAKAN the Forever Man Graphic novella series

AGENT 9mm - an assassin who works for a covert government agency, AGENT 9mm tracks down and eliminates claundestine terrorist and criminal groups that are not really known to the world at large. She strikes from the darkness at targets that thrive in the shadows. On one such mission, she finds herself entangled in things far removed from the criminal and the political, and in the unfamiliar world of magic and demons and dimensions humans were never meant to travel. This is the unforgiving world of CHAKAN the forever man, and it is a harsh place she will be lucky to survive. She sports four nine millimeter pistols, her weapon of choice, and a cache of ammo. Three of the guns are custom made and designed by her, the fourth one is tied to a traumatic past filled with the sad secrets that even now color her actions.

IRON PALM CHANG -Leader of the DRAGON SWORD CLAN - One half secretive martial art cult, one half international crime organization, the Dragon Sword Clan is involved at some level in almost every form of crime and vice on the planet, yet their existence is known only to a few. Untold wealth, deadly martial arts, and mystic secrets known only to its masters are not enough for the evil "Iron Palm Chang". He wants something that is much more precious to him - redemption. When news is delivered that the "sword of swords" has been seen, all of his resources are focused on finding it. He will capture the sword and slay its carrier to avenge the honor of the clan which had suffered a humiliating loss by a past master at the hands of its bearer. He does not realize that he seeks the undead warrior CHAKAN the forever man, and he will have to enter the "Journey of 100 Candles Spell" to face him.

THE SPIDER QUEEN - ARACHNE DANE - Adept in black magics which are amplified with the archaic amulet she stole from its caretaker priests, she has everything she wants in this world - except immortality. She has funded research into both science and arcane knowledge to try to extend her mortality, and that is when she stumbled onto the glimpses of a warrior that appears throughout folklore and recorded history. A skull faced warrior found in the oral myths of aboriginal people, in the hieroglyphs of early civilizations, and through writings on all seven continents. In a hospital in the midwestern city of Akron, Ohio she nearly captured him. Now, so close to finding this immortal being, she will stop at nothing to uncover the secrets the Forever Man holds. With her arachnid soldiers she will pursue the forever man to the pits of Hell...and Hell might be a spell named "The Journey of 100 Candles".
